On July 15, 2014, it was announced that Mora would join South China. This team plays in the Hong Kong Premier League. He joined them on a temporary agreement called a loan.
Playing for His Country
Cristian Mora played 20 matches for the Ecuador national team. His first big game for the senior team was against Italy. This was a friendly match played in New Jersey. The game ended in a 1-1 tie.
During this match, Mora made a fantastic save. He stopped a penalty kick from the famous player Luca Toni. This save made many people notice him. One of them was Luis Fernando Suarez, who was Ecuador's coach at the time.
Mora was the main goalkeeper for Ecuador during the 2005 2006 FIFA World Cup qualification games. He helped his team qualify for the World Cup. In the 2006 World Cup, Mora played in all four of Ecuador's matches. His team was knocked out in the Round of 16 by England. Mora only let in 4 goals during the tournament. He also managed to keep a "clean sheet" (meaning no goals were scored against him) in games against Poland and Costa Rica.
After the 2006 World Cup, Mora had some tough games. His team had poor results in friendly matches. They also struggled in the Copa America 2007 tournament. Because of this, he did not play for the national team as much after that.
