History of Crowder
When Crowder was first settled, it was part of the Choctaw Nation in what was known as the Indian Territory. This was before Oklahoma became a state. The town was first named Juanita. It got this name from Juanita Harlan Crowder, whose husband, Dr. W.E. Crowder, was a doctor there early on. A post office opened in Juanita on March 21, 1902. Later, on June 4, 1904, the town's name was changed to Crowder to honor Dr. Crowder.
