Cruces is a small area, called a barrio, located in the town of Aguada, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 1,632 people lived there. It's a part of Puerto Rico, which is a commonwealth of the United States.
A Look Back: History of Cruces
Puerto Rico has an interesting history. After the Spanish–American War in 1898, Spain gave Puerto Rico to the United States. This happened because of a special agreement called the Treaty of Paris of 1898.
Puerto Rico then became a territory of the United States. This means it's connected to the U.S. but isn't a state. In 1899, the United States government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count is called a census. They found that Cruces, along with two other areas named Guayabo and Río Grande, had a total of 1,533 people.
