Crystal Hogan (born in 1977) is an American basketball referee. She is known for being the first woman to referee a men's Division 1 college basketball game. She also became the first full-time woman referee in NCAA Men's D-1 history.
Early Life and Education
Crystal Hogan grew up in Compton, California. She went to Compton College where she played basketball. Her coach there was Louie Nelson. Later, she received a full scholarship to Long Beach State. She studied psychology and earned her degree. After college, she worked as a social worker.
Becoming a Referee
Crystal Hogan trained to become a basketball referee. She started officiating games with the Long Beach Unit of the California Basketball Officials Association. She also watched games at the famous Drew League. Eventually, she got to referee games there, even calling a foul on basketball superstar Kobe Bryant.
In the 2018–19 season, Crystal Hogan joined the Division 1 basketball officials. This was a big step in her career.
Making History in Basketball
Crystal Hogan made history when she became the first woman to referee a men's Division 1 college basketball game. This happened when Seattle University played against Puget Sound University. Her dedication and skill also led her to become the first full-time woman referee in NCAA Men's D-1 history. This means she works as a referee for these games all the time.
