The Cuatro Vientos (meaning 'Four Winds') was a very special airplane. It was a Breguet Br.19 TF Super Bidon model. In 1933, three brave Spanish aviators flew it from Spain all the way to Cuba. This amazing flight took almost 40 hours and covered about 7,320 kilometers!
The pilots were Mariano Barberán, Joaquín Collar Serra, and Sergeant Modesto Madariaga. They took off from Seville, Spain, on June 10, 1933. They landed in Camagüey, Cuba, on June 11.

The Historic Flight to Cuba
The flight of the Cuatro Vientos was a huge achievement in aviation. It showed how far airplanes could travel in the 1930s. The journey was long and challenging for the crew.
Setting Off from Spain
The airplane departed from Seville, Spain, at 4:40 AM on June 10, 1933. The crew had prepared for this long journey. They were aiming to cross the Atlantic Ocean.
Arriving in Cuba
After flying for 39 hours and 55 minutes, the Cuatro Vientos landed. It arrived in Camagüey, Cuba, at 8:45 PM local time on June 11, 1933. This was a record-breaking flight for its time.
The Mysterious Disappearance
After their successful trip to Cuba, the aviators planned to fly to Mexico City. This next part of their journey would be different. Sergeant Madariaga did not join them for this flight.
Heading to Mexico
On June 20, 1933, the Cuatro Vientos took off from Cuba. Only Mariano Barberán and Joaquín Collar Serra were on board. They were flying towards Mexico City.
Last Sighting and No Trace
The airplane was last seen near Villahermosa, Mexico. After that, it simply disappeared. No one ever found the plane or the two pilots. Their disappearance remains a mystery to this day.
Remembering the Cuatro Vientos
Even though the original plane was lost, its story lives on. A special copy of the Cuatro Vientos was built. This replica helps people remember the brave pilots and their amazing journey.
