In 1933, Mariano Barberán made history. He flew a special airplane called the Cuatro Vientos. This plane was a Br.19 TF Super Bidon. It was built just for this long journey.

Mariano Barberán flew with Lieutenant Joaquín Collar Serra. Sergeant Modesto Madariaga also joined them. Their goal was to fly from Spain to Cuba.

The amazing flight began on June 10, 1933. They took off from Seville, Spain, at 4:40 AM. After flying for almost 40 hours, they landed. They arrived in Camagüey, Cuba, at 8:45 PM local time on June 11, 1933. The total distance they covered was 7,320 kilometers (about 4,548 miles). This was a huge achievement for aviation at the time.

Mysterious Disappearance

After their successful flight to Cuba, Mariano Barberán and Joaquín Collar Serra planned another journey. On June 20, 1933, they departed for Mexico City. Sergeant Madariaga did not join them on this flight.

The plane was last seen near Villahermosa, Mexico. After that, it disappeared without a trace. No part of the plane or its two pilots was ever found. Their disappearance remains a mystery.
