The Cuban crow (scientific name: Corvus nasicus) is a type of crow found on islands in the Caribbean Sea. It's one of four crow species living in this region. This crow is closely related to the white-necked crow and the Jamaican crow. They all share similar looks and habits. Another Caribbean crow, the palm crow, arrived later in the Caribbean. It looks more like crows from North America, such as the fish crow.

Where Cuban Crows Live
Cuban crows are quite common across the large island of Cuba. You can also find them on the nearby Isla de la Juventud. They live in the Turks and Caicos islands too. These birds like woodlands and areas cleared for farming. They often live near farms and villages. Cuban crows have learned to live well close to people.
What Cuban Crows Look Like
The Cuban crow is a strong, medium-sized forest bird. It is about 40 to 42 centimeters (16 to 17 inches) long. Its beak is long and deep. It has a gentle curve towards the end. This gives the crow a large-headed look.
The feathers near its nose usually sweep forward and then up. This often shows its nostrils. Most other crows have their nostrils hidden. The Cuban crow also has a patch of dark grey skin. This skin is behind its brownish-red eye. There is also bare skin at the base of its lower beak. Its black feathers have a shiny bluish-purple color in good light. Its beak, legs, and feet are all black.
What Cuban Crows Eat
Cuban crows mostly eat fruit and insects. However, they are also happy to eat human food. They will often look for leftover scraps. You can see large, noisy groups of them eating in trees. They also like to eat on the ground. This is especially true where grain or seeds have been spilled.
Cuban Crow Sounds
The sounds a Cuban crow makes are very unique. They don't sound like typical crows. They make strange, bubbly, liquid notes. They also make high, ringing sounds. These sounds come in many different mixes. The crow can also make a thin, screeching sound. It sounds like "aaaaauh" and gets higher at the end.
Cuban Crow Breeding
Cuban crows build their nests in tall trees. Not much more is known about their breeding habits yet.
