Curtis Lamar Rouse (July 13, 1960 – May 3, 2013) was a talented American football player. He played as an offensive lineman for six seasons in the National Football League (NFL). His teams included the Minnesota Vikings and the San Diego Chargers.
Curtis Rouse's Early Life and College Years
Curtis Rouse grew up in Augusta, Georgia. He went to Lucy Craft Laney High School. After high school, he attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
While at Chattanooga, Rouse played college football. In 1979, as a sophomore, he helped his team win the Southern Conference championship. This was a big achievement for the team!
In his final year of college, Rouse was recognized as one of the best players. He was named to the All-Southern Conference team. He also got to play in the important Senior Bowl game.
Curtis Rouse's NFL Career Highlights
Curtis Rouse was chosen by the Minnesota Vikings in the 11th round of the 1982 NFL Draft. This meant he was picked to play professional football.
He played for the Vikings from 1982 to 1986. He played different positions on the offensive line, like offensive guard and offensive tackle. He also played on special teams. Rouse played in every game for three seasons in a row (1983, 1984, and 1985).
After playing for the Vikings, he joined the San Diego Chargers for one season in 1987. During his time in the NFL, he was known for being a very strong and large player.
Later Life and Achievements
After his football career, Curtis Rouse continued to be remembered for his skills. In 2003, the Chattanooga Times Free Press newspaper honored him. They placed him on Tennessee-Chattanooga's All-Century Football Team. This team included the best football players from the university's history.
In 2005, Rouse was elected into the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's Athletics Hall of Fame. This is a special honor for athletes who have made a big impact.
