Cuttalosa Creek is a small stream located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It is a branch, or tributary, of the larger Delaware River. This creek is known for its natural beauty and interesting history.

Where Does Cuttalosa Creek Flow?
Cuttalosa Creek starts from two natural springs. These springs are found about a mile west of the village of Solebury. This area is in Solebury Township. The creek begins at an elevation of about 410 feet (125 meters) above sea level.
The creek generally flows towards the northeast, then turns north, and then northeast again. It continues this path until it reaches the Delaware River. The creek joins the Delaware River at a place called Cuttalossa (also known as Lumberton). This meeting point is about a mile upstream from Hendricks Island. At this point, the elevation is about 70 feet (21 meters). Cuttalosa Road crosses over the creek five times along its journey.
What Does the Name Cuttalosa Mean?
The name Cuttalosa comes from the Lenape language. The Lenape people were Native Americans who lived in this area. They had a village nearby that they called Quatalossi. The creek was named after their village.
What is the Creek's Ground Like?
Cuttalosa Creek flows over a special type of rock. This rock is part of something called the Stockton Formation. This formation is made up of layers of light-colored sandstone, siltstone, and mudstone. These rock layers were formed a very long time ago, during the Late Triassic period.
A Look at Cuttalosa Creek's History
Long ago, the Lenape people lived in a village in the valley along Cuttalosa Creek. Later, several mills were built along the creek. These mills used the creek's water power to grind grain or saw wood.
One famous mill was built by Samuel Armitage in 1752. This mill operated for a very long time. It continued to work until 1929, when Samuel's descendant, Amos Armitage, closed it down.
