Cyril Calvin Pinder (born November 13, 1946 – died January 22, 2021) was an American professional football player. He was a talented running back in the National Football League (NFL). Cyril played for famous teams like the Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, and Dallas Cowboys. Before joining the pros, he played college football for the Illinois Fighting Illini.

Becoming a Football Star
Cyril Pinder grew up in Hollywood, Florida. He went to Crispus Attucks High School. He started playing football when he was a junior. He was so good that he was chosen as an All-state player in both football and basketball. He also competed in track.
He earned a scholarship to the University of Illinois. During his time there, he was a strong player for the Fighting Illini. He finished his college career with 434 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. He was also a champion in indoor sprint races.
Playing Pro Football
Joining the Philadelphia Eagles
The Philadelphia Eagles picked Cyril Pinder in the second round of the 1968 NFL draft. He was the 39th player chosen overall. In the 1970 season, he became the Eagles' top rusher. He ran for 657 yards and scored 2 touchdowns. In September 1971, he was traded to the Chicago Bears.
Time with the Chicago Bears
Cyril joined the Chicago Bears in 1971. He helped the team while their star player, Gale Sayers, was recovering from an injury. He played for the Bears for two seasons.
Playing for the Dallas Cowboys
In September 1973, Cyril Pinder signed with the Dallas Cowboys. He helped fill in for other players on the team. He was part of the team for the 1973 season.
Playing in the World Football League
After his time in the NFL, Cyril played in the World Football League (WFL).
- Chicago Fire: In 1974, he joined the Chicago Fire. He became the team's starting running back. He had a great season, rushing for 925 yards and scoring 8 touchdowns.
- Chicago Winds: In 1975, he played for the Chicago Winds. This team replaced the Fire. However, the Winds only played five games before the league had problems.
Life After Football
After his football career, Cyril Pinder worked as an investment banker for ten years. He also worked for a TV station called WLS-TV in Chicago. Cyril Pinder passed away on January 22, 2021, at the age of 74.
