Céline Emilian (1898–1983) was a talented sculptor. She was born in France but became famous as a Romanian artist. She was especially known for making amazing portrait sculptures of people.

Life of Céline Emilian
Céline Emilian was born in Paris, France, in 1898. Her parents were from Romania. When she was a young woman in the early 1920s, she began to study sculpture. She learned her skills in Paris from a very famous sculptor named Antoine Bourdelle.
Learning and Working as an Artist
Céline Emilian worked as an assistant for Bourdelle for some time. This means she helped him in his studio. After her training, she moved to Romania. Even after moving, she would go back to Paris every year to work on her art. She also had a studio in Rome, Italy.
From 1930 onwards, Céline Emilian regularly showed her sculptures at a big art show in Paris. This show was called the Salon des Artistes Francais. It was a very important place for artists to display their work.
International Recognition
Céline Emilian's art was recognized around the world.
- In 1934 and 1936, she represented Romania at the Venice Biennale. This is a huge international art exhibition held in Venice, Italy.
- In 1937, she created special relief sculptures for the Romanian area at the Paris International Exhibition. This was a big world fair where countries showed off their achievements.
Famous Sculptures and Exhibitions
Later in her career, large shows of her work were held in Bucharest, Romania.
- One show was in 1957 at Stalin Park.
- Another big exhibition happened in 1979 at Sala Dalles. This show featured about 132 of her sculptures!
Her sculptures included many famous people. She made portrait busts, which are sculptures of a person's head and shoulders. Some of these included:
- Luigi Pirandello, a famous writer.
- Alfred Cortot, a well-known musician.
- Nicolae Ceaușescu, who was a leader of Romania.
- Elena Ceaușescu, his wife.
Céline Emilian also created portraits of her teacher, Bourdelle, and a composer named Vincent d'Indy. She made special carvings called bas-reliefs for a church in France, the Eglise St. Remy at Reims. She was also asked to make 20 statues of former Romanian queens for a park in Bucharest.
One of her bronze sculptures from 1930, called Angela, is now part of the Tate art collection in London, England.
