Darryll James "D. J." Foster, born on November 22, 1993, is a former American football player. He used to play as a running back. He is now the manager of player development at Arizona State University. This is the same university where he played college football.
D. J. Foster joined the New England Patriots in 2016. He was not chosen in the draft but signed as a free agent. He was part of the Patriots team that won Super Bowl LI. Even though he was on the team, he did not play in that specific game.
High School Football Star
D. J. Foster went to Saguaro High School in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was an amazing player there. During his time in high school, he ran for more than 5,000 yards.
Setting New Records
In his senior year, Foster set a new record for Arizona. He scored 60 total touchdowns in one season. He also set state records for:

He helped his team win the Arizona Division III State Championship. This was a great way to finish his high school career. The Arizona Republic newspaper named him the Big Schools Player of the Year in 2011. The East Valley Tribune also named him the 2011 Tribune Football Player of the Year.

Experts at Rivals.com thought Foster was a top player. They rated him as the 5th best athlete in his group. On January 27, 2012, he decided to play college football for Arizona State. He chose them over many other big college offers.

Freshman Year (2012)
In 2012, Foster played in all 13 games for Arizona State. He started one game. He scored his first college touchdown against Missouri. He gained a total of 1,026 yards that year. This included 493 yards from running and 533 yards from catching passes. He scored six touchdowns in total.
Sophomore Year (2013)
Foster had a bigger role in 2013. He was a top player in the nation for receiving yards by a running back. He had 653 receiving yards, which was second-highest on his team. He also gained 1,170 total yards. He caught 63 passes, which was also second on the team. He scored 10 touchdowns that season. He scored both of Arizona State's touchdowns against Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship.
Junior Year (2014)
In 2014, Foster became the main running back for the Sun Devils. He ran the ball 194 times for 1,081 yards and scored nine touchdowns. He also caught 62 passes for 688 yards and scored six receiving touchdowns.
Senior Year (2015)
On December 30, 2014, Foster announced he would return for his senior year. He decided to play as a wide receiver for his final season. In 2015, he caught 59 passes for 584 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran the ball 55 times for 280 yards and one touchdown.

After college, D. J. Foster joined the professional football world.
New England Patriots (2016–2017)
Foster was not chosen in the 2016 NFL draft. However, the New England Patriots signed him as a free agent. He made it onto the Patriots' main roster on September 3, 2016. His first professional game was on September 18, 2016. The Patriots won against the Miami Dolphins.
On February 5, 2017, the Patriots played in Super Bowl LI. Foster was part of the team, but he did not play in the game. The Patriots made an amazing comeback in that game. They were losing 28–3 in the third quarter but won 34–28 against the Atlanta Falcons. This was the first Super Bowl to go into overtime.
Foster was released by the Patriots in September 2017. He then joined their practice squad.
Arizona Cardinals (2017–2020)
On September 12, 2017, the Arizona Cardinals signed Foster from the Patriots' practice squad. In 2017, he played in seven games for the Cardinals. He caught 17 passes for 133 yards.
Foster faced some injuries during his time with the Cardinals. He was placed on injured reserve in 2019 and 2020. He was moved between the active roster and the practice squad several times in 2020.
Toronto Argonauts (2021)
On July 19, 2021, Foster signed with the Toronto Argonauts in the Canadian Football League. He played in 10 regular season games. He ran the ball 82 times for 332 yards and scored two rushing touchdowns. He also caught 33 passes for 316 yards and two receiving touchdowns. He played in the East Final game, where his team lost to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Argonauts released him on May 6, 2022.
