Nathaniel Pierre Jones, known as DJ Pierre, is an American DJ and musician. He is famous for his work in house music, especially for helping create a style called Acid house. He is based in Chicago, a city known for its house music scene.
Musical Journey
Starting with Phuture
DJ Pierre formed a music group called Phuture with his friends Spanky (Earl Smith Jr.) and Herb J (Herbert R Jackson Jr.). They started experimenting with a special electronic instrument called a Roland TB-303 bass line synthesizer. This instrument made a unique "squelch" sound.
This sound became very important in a new style of music called Acid House. Phuture was one of the first groups to use this sound in their music. They were part of the exciting house music scene in Chicago in the late 1980s.
First Big Songs
One of Phuture's most famous songs was "Acid Tracks." DJ Ron Hardy, a popular DJ in Chicago, played this song many times at his club, the Music Box. People loved its deep, bass-heavy sound.
"Acid Tracks" was later recorded and released by Trax Records in 1986. DJ Pierre made many other early Acid House songs for Trax Records. He used different names for his projects, like Phuture, Phuture Pfantasy Club, and Pierre's Pfantasy Club. Some of these songs include "The Creator," "String Free," and "Box Energy."
Other Music and Achievements
In 1990, DJ Pierre worked as an A&R executive at Strictly Rhythm Records. This means he helped find new artists and songs for the record label. He also released other popular songs, such as "Generate Power" by Photon Inc and "Follow Me" by Aly-Us. He also worked with singer Barbara Tucker on the song "The Horn Song," which later became "Everybody Dance (The Horn Song)."
DJ Pierre is still very active as a DJ and producer today. He has appeared on famous radio shows like Pete Tong's Essential Mix on British BBC Radio 1. In 2013, Pete Tong even added DJ Pierre to his dance music Hall of Fame, recognizing his big impact on music. In 2011, he released the song "Alpha Omega" with Kris Menace.
