Da'Sean Butler (born January 25, 1988) is an American basketball coach and former player. He is currently an assistant coach for the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Butler played college basketball for West Virginia University. He was chosen by the Miami Heat as the 42nd pick in the 2010 NBA draft.

College Career Highlights
Da'Sean Butler had an amazing college basketball career at West Virginia University. He was known for his scoring and leadership.
Freshman Season (2006-2007)
As a freshman, Butler quickly made an impact, often coming off the bench. He scored a career-high 21 points against Seton Hall. He also had a season-high 10 rebounds against Notre Dame. The team made it to the finals of the NIT and won the championship! Butler scored 20 points in the final game against Clemson. He was named to the Big East All-Freshman team, averaging 10.1 points per game.
Sophomore Season (2007-2008)
Before his sophomore year, a new coach, Bob Huggins, joined West Virginia. Butler became a starter and continued to play well. He scored a season-high 18 points against Duquesne. He also hit a game-winning shot against Marshall with only 6 seconds left! The team had a great run in the NCAA Tournament, reaching the Sweet 16. Butler averaged 12.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game this season.
Junior Season (2008-2009)
Butler had an incredible junior year, leading his team in many games. He scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against Mississippi for his first double-double of the season. In a close game against Davidson, he scored 24 points and had 14 rebounds. He reached 1,000 career points during a game where he scored a career-high 28 points against Miami University.
One of his most memorable games was against Villanova, where he scored an amazing 43 points! This was one of the highest scores ever in a Big East conference game. Butler finished his junior season averaging 19.1 points and 5.9 rebounds per game. He scored 20 or more points in 12 games that season.
Senior Season (2009-2010)
In his senior year, Butler helped lead the Mountaineers to a fantastic season. He hit a game-winning three-pointer against Cincinnati in the Big East tournament. He then led the team to their first-ever Big East title by hitting another game-winning shot against Georgetown in the championship game.
The team then entered the NCAA Tournament as a high seed. They made it all the way to the Final Four! In the Elite Eight game, they upset the favorite, Kentucky, with Butler scoring 18 points. Sadly, during the Final Four game against Duke, Butler suffered a serious knee injury.
Despite the injury, Butler was recognized for his amazing college career. He won the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award for men's basketball, which honors a student-athlete who excels in four areas: community, classroom, character, and competition. He was also a finalist for the John R. Wooden Award, given to the best college basketball player of the year.
Professional Career
After college, Da'Sean Butler began his professional basketball journey, playing for teams in the NBA G League and overseas.
Austin Toros (2011-2012)
Butler was drafted by the Miami Heat in 2010. After recovering from his knee injury, he signed with the San Antonio Spurs and played for their G League team, the Austin Toros. He played for them in 2011 and again in 2012, but his knee injury continued to cause problems.
Playing Overseas (2011-2020)
Butler also played for several teams outside the United States:
- VEF Rīga (Latvia, 2011): He played briefly in Latvia during an NBA lockout.
- Okapi Aalstar (Belgium, 2013-2014): He had a strong season here, winning the Belgian Supercup in 2013. He averaged 16.2 points per game and was named the Belgian League Forward of the Year.
- Châlons Reims (France, 2014-2015): He played one season in France.
- ratiopharm Ulm (Germany, 2015-2018): Butler spent three seasons with this German team. He helped them reach the 2016 BBL Finals.
- Hapoel Jerusalem (Israel, 2018-2019): He won the Israeli State Cup with this team in 2019.
- Hapoel Be'er Sheva (Israel, 2019-2020): In his final playing season, he hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer for his team.
Coaching Career
After a successful playing career, Da'Sean Butler transitioned into coaching.
In February 2021, he joined Wheeling University as an assistant coach. Later that year, in October 2021, he became an assistant coach for the College Park Skyhawks in the NBA G League.
In July 2023, Butler returned to his old college team, West Virginia, as an assistant coach. Then, in July 2024, he joined the Boston Celtics as a player enhancement coach, helping players improve their skills.
