Daigo Nishi, whose full name is 西 大伍 (Nishi Daigo), is a Japanese professional football player. He was born on August 28, 1987, in Sapporo, Hokkaido. He plays as a right back for the J3 League club Iwate Grulla Morioka.

Daigo Nishi's Football Journey
Early Years and Youth Teams
Daigo Nishi started playing football at a young age. He was a key player in the youth teams of Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo. In the Under-15 team, he played as a forward. Later, in the Under-18 team, he became an offensive and defensive midfielder.
In 2004, Daigo Nishi had a special training opportunity. He traveled to Portugal to train with a club called CS Maritimo. This helped him gain valuable experience. The next year, in 2005, his youth team reached the finals of the All Japan youth championship. They finished as runners-up, which was a great achievement.
Playing for Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo
In 2006, Daigo Nishi officially became a professional player. He joined Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo. At first, he didn't play much in games. To help him grow, he went to Brazil in 2007 for more training. He trained with Esporte Clube Vitória.
He returned to Sapporo earlier than planned because many players on his team were injured. On October 27, 2007, he played in a J-League match. He scored his first professional goal in extra time, which helped his team win! In 2008, he scored three goals, all in extra time. One of these was a winning goal against Kashiwa Reysol. In 2009, he changed his position to right wing-back. He played in 42 matches and scored 7 goals that season.
Time with Albirex Niigata
In 2010, Daigo Nishi moved to Albirex Niigata on a loan. A loan means he played for them for a short time. He started as a substitute midfielder. But soon, he became a regular player as a right-back. He played in 29 matches and scored one goal for the team.
Success with Kashima Antlers
In 2011, Daigo Nishi joined Kashima Antlers permanently. Here, he changed his main position to defender. He became known for his amazing skills. In 2014, one of his goals was chosen as the "Best Goal Award" of the J-League. It was a direct volley goal against Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

Joining Iwate Grulla Morioka
On August 17, 2023, Daigo Nishi signed a loan deal with Iwate Grulla Morioka. This club plays in the J3 League. He later joined them permanently in 2024.
Daigo Nishi's International Career
Playing for Japan's National Team
Daigo Nishi has also played for the Japan national football team. This is the team that represents Japan in international matches. In 2010, he was chosen as a back-up player for the AFC Asian Cup.
His first game for the national team was on June 1, 2011. It was a match against Peru in the KIRIN Cup. He was also selected for the national team again in 2014 and 2019. On March 26, 2019, he played his first match for Japan since 2011, against Bolivia.

Daigo Nishi played in the 2016 FIFA Club World Cup. This is a big tournament where top clubs from around the world compete. His team, Kashima Antlers, reached the final! They played against the famous Spanish club Real Madrid C.F.. Daigo Nishi played the entire match.
