Dalano Banton (born November 7, 1999) is a Canadian professional basketball player. He is known as D.B. Hooper. Dalano plays for the Portland Trail Blazers in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Before joining the NBA, he played college basketball. He played for the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers and the Nebraska Cornhuskers. In 2021, the Toronto Raptors picked him in the NBA draft. He was the 46th player chosen overall. This made him the first Canadian player ever drafted by the Raptors, a Canadian team.

Growing Up and High School Basketball
Dalano Banton grew up in Toronto, Canada. His dad is from Jamaica and his mom is Canadian. He lived in the Mount Olive area, which is part of the Rexdale neighborhood.
He started playing basketball when he was a kid. He played at local community centers and even in a parking lot. He also went to basketball camps. These camps were hosted by DeMar DeRozan, a famous player who used to play for the Toronto Raptors.
In high school, Dalano was a very good player. He went to Redemption Christian Academy and MacDuffie School. Experts thought he was one of the best young players in the country. He was ranked among the top 100 recruits in 2018. In November 2017, he decided to play college basketball for Western Kentucky.
College Basketball Journey
Dalano Banton started his college career at Western Kentucky. As a freshman, he played 31 games. He averaged about 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists per game. One time, he almost got a triple-double. This means he had double-digit numbers in three different stats. He had 8 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists in a game against Wisconsin. Only a few players in his division achieved this that year.
After his first year, Dalano decided to transfer. He moved to the University of Nebraska. He had to sit out one season because of transfer rules. During this time, he practiced with the team. He also played in some games when the team visited Italy.
In December 2020, Dalano made history at Nebraska. He got the second triple-double ever for the men's basketball team. He scored 13 points, grabbed 11 rebounds, and made 10 assists. This helped Nebraska win a big game. Overall, he averaged about 9 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game that season. After this, he decided to enter the NBA draft.
Playing in the NBA
Toronto Raptors (2021–2023)
The Toronto Raptors drafted Dalano Banton in 2021. He was the 46th pick overall. This was a special moment because he was the first Canadian player drafted by the Raptors. He signed a multi-year contract with the team.
Dalano chose to wear jersey number 45. This was a tribute to the 45 Kipling bus route. This bus served the neighborhood where he grew up in Toronto. He played his first NBA game on October 20, 2021. He scored his first points with a three-point field goal at the end of a quarter. In November 2021, he scored a season-high 12 points against the Detroit Pistons.
In November 2022, Dalano had a career-best game. He scored 27 points against the Detroit Pistons. He also had 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks. This helped the Raptors win the game.
Boston Celtics (2023–2024)
In July 2023, Dalano Banton signed a two-year contract. He joined the Boston Celtics.
Portland Trail Blazers (2024–present)
In February 2024, Dalano was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. He quickly showed his skills with his new team. On March 27, he set a new career high. He scored 31 points against the Atlanta Hawks. He also had 5 rebounds and 9 assists.
In the last game of the 2024 season, Dalano tried many three-point shots. He attempted 15 shots from beyond the arc but didn't make any. This was the first time in NBA history a player had so many three-point attempts without a make.
On November 4, 2024, Dalano scored 20 points in less than 12 minutes. This was a first for the Trail Blazers team. It was also only the seventh time in NBA history a player achieved this.
