People of Dalcahue
How Many People Live Here?
In 2002, a count of people (called a census) showed that about 10,693 people lived in the Dalcahue commune. This area covers about 1,239 square kilometers.
City vs. Countryside
Almost half of the people (4,933) lived in the city parts of Dalcahue. The other half (5,760) lived in the countryside areas. Between 1992 and 2002, the number of people living in Dalcahue grew quite a lot, by about 37.7%.
How Dalcahue is Governed
Local Government
Dalcahue is managed by a municipal council. This council is led by an alcalde, which is like a mayor. The alcalde is chosen directly by the people every four years. From 2008 to 2012, the alcalde was Alfredo Hurtado Alvarez.
National Representation
Dalcahue is also part of a larger area for national elections. Its people are represented in Chile's national government. For example, they have people who speak for them in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate. These representatives help make laws for the whole country.
