Dale Barnstable (March 4, 1925 – January 26, 2019) was an American basketball player. He was born in Antioch, Illinois. After his college basketball career, he faced a serious issue that prevented him from playing in the National Basketball Association (NBA).
Early Life and High School
Dale Barnstable was born in Antioch, Illinois. He grew up there and went to Antioch Community High School. During his time in high school, he was a very important player in sports.
College Basketball Career
After high school, Dale was recruited by the University of Kentucky. He played basketball for the Kentucky Wildcats men's basketball team. His coach was Adolph Rupp, who is now in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.
Dale played for Kentucky from 1946 to 1950. He was a key player on two championship teams. These teams won the national college basketball title in 1948 and 1949. Dale was a starter on the 1949 team. That year, he was named to the third team All-Southeastern Conference. This means he was one of the best players in his college league. During his time at Kentucky, Dale scored a total of 635 points.
Life After Basketball
Dale Barnstable was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1950. This was towards the end of his college career. However, due to a college basketball issue, he was not able to play in the NBA.
After his basketball career, Dale worked as a salesman. He worked for American Air Filter in Louisville until he retired. He also became a very good golfer. He won the Kentucky Senior Open golf tournament two times. He even played in the British Senior Open. He was the first amateur golfer from Kentucky to do this.
Dale Barnstable was also a father. He had identical twin daughters, Priscilla and Patricia. They became actresses. They were known for their roles in a TV show called Quark.
Dale Barnstable passed away on January 26, 2019. He was 93 years old.
