Dalemead is a small community called a hamlet in southern Alberta, Canada. It's managed by Rocky View County. You can find it about 35 kilometers (21 miles) southeast of downtown Calgary. It's also just a short distance (3.2 km or 2.0 mi) south of Highway 22X, right along a Canadian Pacific Kansas City railway line.
Dalemead's Story: How It Began
Dalemead was started in 1913. This happened when the Canadian Pacific Railway line was built through the area. The community was first named Strathmead. But this caused confusion with a nearby town called Strathmore. So, the name was changed to Dalemead. The new name comes from a nearby valley, which is called a "dale." It also includes the last name of Dr. Ellwood Mead.
