History of Dallas
Dallas was officially planned out in 1907. This means its streets and lots were mapped out for building. Before that, a post office opened in 1904. The town was named after the much larger city of Dallas, Texas. The post office in Dallas, South Dakota, stayed open until 1973.
Where is Dallas Located?
Dallas is in the western part of Gregory County. You can find it along U.S. Route 18, which is a main road. It's about four miles (6.4 kilometers) west of a town called Gregory. A stream named Ponca Creek flows about a mile (1.6 kilometers) south of the community. The town covers a total area of about 0.51 square miles (1.31 square kilometers), and all of it is land.
