Dan Spiegle (born December 10, 1920 – died January 28, 2017) was an American comics artist. He was famous for drawing comics based on popular movies and TV shows. He worked for big companies like Dell Comics, DC Comics, and Marvel Comics.

About Dan Spiegle
His Early Life and Career
Dan Spiegle was born in Cosmopolis, Washington, in 1920. He grew up there, in Hawaii, and in California. After high school, he joined the Navy. In the Navy, he worked on the base newspaper. He also designed insignias for airplanes.
After leaving the Navy in 1946, Spiegle went to art school. He studied at the Chouinard Art Institute in Los Angeles. He started his career as a cartoonist in 1949. His first big job was drawing the comic strip Hopalong Cassidy. He drew this popular Western strip until 1955.
Working with Dell and Gold Key Comics
Dan Spiegle started drawing for comic books in 1952. His first comic book story was for Dell Comics. It was a Western story about Annie Oakley. For many years, he drew Western comics for Dell. These included titles like Rex Allen and Dale Evans.
He also drew comics based on TV shows. These included Colt .45, Maverick, and The Rifleman. He even met actor James Garner to make his drawings of the Maverick character look just right.
Later, he worked for Gold Key Comics. This company was connected to Dell. At Gold Key, he drew many different comics. Some were Space Family Robinson and The Green Hornet. He also worked on mystery comics. In 1979, he drew the comic book version of the Disney movie The Black Hole.
Drawing for Scooby-Doo and More
Dan Spiegle also drew for cartoon characters. He worked on the Hanna-Barbera Scooby-Doo comic book. He started drawing Scooby-Doo in 1973. He often worked with writer Mark Evanier on these comics. They continued to work on Scooby-Doo comics for Marvel and Archie Comics later on.
Spiegle then moved to DC Comics. There, he drew for many famous characters. These included Unknown Soldier, Jonah Hex, and Teen Titans. He also drew the "Nemesis" series. He helped create the character Mister E.
He also drew for Eclipse Comics. He drew every issue of the comic book Crossfire. He worked with Mark Evanier again on Hollywood Superstars for Marvel.
In the 1990s, Spiegle drew Indiana Jones comics for Dark Horse Comics. He also drew "Nester's Adventures" for Nintendo Power magazine. Dan Spiegle passed away on January 28, 2017, when he was 96 years old.
