Dani Hernández's Football Journey
Starting Out in Spain
Dani Hernández was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He began his football career in Spain, playing for various teams in the lower leagues until he was 25 years old. He played for clubs like CF Rayo Majadahonda, CD Guadalajara, and Real Madrid C.
One of his most memorable early games was on October 26, 2010. He played for Real Murcia CF against the famous Real Madrid in a cup match. Even though his team lost overall, Dani played incredibly well, keeping a clean sheet in that specific game!
He also spent some time with SD Huesca in the Segunda División (Spain's second division).
Time at Valladolid
On August 19, 2011, Dani joined Real Valladolid, another team in Spain's second division. In his first year, he was usually a backup goalkeeper. However, when the main goalkeeper got injured, Dani stepped up during the promotion playoffs. He played brilliantly, letting in only one goal in four games. This helped his team get promoted to La Liga, which is Spain's top football league!
In the 2012–13 season, Dani continued to be the main goalkeeper for Valladolid. He helped the team stay in La Liga, finishing in 14th place. After this, he went on loan to Asteras Tripolis F.C. in Greece for a year.
Playing for Tenerife
On January 15, 2015, Dani joined CD Tenerife, a team in the second division. He quickly became a key player for them. By May 2018, he had played 138 matches for Tenerife, becoming one of the club's top goalkeepers in terms of appearances. He stayed with Tenerife for many years, until 2022.
Later Career at Fuenlabrada
In July 2022, Dani, at 36 years old, signed a two-year contract with CF Fuenlabrada. This team had recently been relegated to the Primera Federación, which is a lower division in Spain. He played there for one season before retiring.
Playing for Venezuela
Dani Hernández also had a great international career playing for his home country, Venezuela. He made his first appearance for the national team on September 7, 2010, in a friendly match against Ecuador, which Venezuela won 1–0.
He was also part of the Venezuelan squad that played in the 2011 Copa América in Argentina. This is a big tournament for national teams in South America. He continued to represent Venezuela until 2016, playing a total of 31 matches for his country.
Family Life
Dani Hernández isn't the only footballer in his family! His older brother, Jonay, was also a professional football player. Jonay was a defender and also spent most of his career playing in Spain. Just like Dani, Jonay also played for the Venezuela national team.
