Daniel Ezra (born 15 December 1991) is a British actor and director. He is best known for his role as Spencer James in the popular TV series All American, which started in 2018.

Growing Up

Daniel Ezra was born in Birmingham, England. His grandparents on both sides came from Jamaica. When he was younger, Daniel loved reading books like Harry Potter and stories by Philip Pullman. He also enjoyed The Lord of the Rings.

Daniel grew up playing basketball. However, he stopped playing sports when he started acting. He went to Great Barr School, which is now called Fortis Academy, in Great Barr, Birmingham. Later, he trained to be an actor at East 15 Acting School.

Becoming an Actor

Daniel Ezra wasn't really interested in acting until he was 16 years old. A teacher at his school convinced him to try out for a play. He took on a role in a school production.

On stage, Daniel played the character Sebastian in the play Twelfth Night. For this role, he was even nominated for an Ian Charleson Award, which is a special prize for young actors.

Early TV Roles

Daniel first appeared on screen in 2014 in a TV movie called Murdered by My Boyfriend. After that, he started acting in BBC dramas. These included shows like Undercover and The Missing. In 2018, Daniel also had a role in the British fantasy show A Discovery of Witches.

Starring in All American

In March 2018, Daniel Ezra got a main role in an American sports drama series called All American. This was his first acting job in the U.S. For this role, he had to learn to speak with an American accent.

To prepare for the show, Daniel spent a lot of time in South Central Los Angeles. He carried a football with him everywhere. This helped him practice his American accent and learn about the local culture. He also studied every song and interview of his favorite rapper, Nipsey Hussle. Hussle was from Crenshaw, which is where the show takes place. Daniel used this to practice his American accent, and he didn't even have an accent coach!

The real-life football player, Spencer Paysinger, on whom Daniel's character is based, also helped him. Spencer drove Daniel and his co-star Taye Diggs around his old neighborhood. This helped them understand what the area was like. To get ready for the show, Daniel also watched the NFL Network a lot. He wanted to learn all about the rules of American football.

Daniel realized how popular the show was when he tried to walk in Times Square. Fans recognized him and came up to say hello!
