Music and TV Career
Daniel Küblböck became a star in late 2002. This happened when he joined the first season of Deutschland sucht den Superstar (DSDS). He was very popular with viewers. He received the most votes in three of the nine competition rounds. Daniel finished the season in third place overall.
After DSDS, Daniel signed a music deal with BMG. By June 2004, he had released four songs and one album. In August 2004, a movie called Daniel – Der Zauberer (Daniel the Wizard) came out. Daniel starred in it as a made-up version of himself. The movie was not very popular and didn't make much money.
In 2005, Daniel appeared on the German version of Big Brother. In 2015, he joined the TV dance show Let's Dance. He finished in sixth place with his dance partner Otlile Mabuse. In 2013, Daniel wanted to enter the Eurovision Song Contest with his song Be a Man. However, the judges did not choose him.

His Disappearance
Daniel Küblböck was a passenger on the cruise ship AIDAluna. The ship left Hamburg on August 29, 2018, heading for New York City. Around 5 a.m. on September 9, he went overboard. The ship was in the Labrador Sea, about 185 kilometers north of St. John's. The water was very cold, about 10 degrees Celsius.
The Canadian Coast Guard started a search to find him. Other cruise ships, AIDAluna and MS Zuiderdam, helped too. On September 10, the search was stopped. Experts believed that no one could survive in such cold water for that long. Under German law, a person missing at sea can be declared dead after six months. On March 10, 2021, a court in Passau, Germany, officially declared Daniel Küblböck dead. His death date was set as September 9, 2018.
His Identity as Lana Kaiser
Before he disappeared, Daniel Küblböck talked about wanting to live as a woman. He chose the name "Lana Kaiser" for himself. He posted on social media that he planned to have surgery to become a woman. He also said he had started hormone therapy. Just before he went missing, Daniel created an Instagram account.
