Daniel Mananta (born in Jakarta, Indonesia, on August 14, 1981) is a famous Indonesian actor, TV host, VJ, and podcaster. He is of Chinese Indonesian descent. Daniel became well-known after winning the 2003 MTV Indonesia VJ Hunt competition. This is why many people know him as VJ Daniel Mananta. Today, he is not only a popular entertainer but also a young business owner.

Early Life and School

Daniel Mananta had a happy childhood in Jakarta, Indonesia. He went to Tarakanita IV school in North Jakarta from kindergarten through junior high. Later, Daniel moved to Perth, Australia, to finish his high school studies at Aquinas College. He doesn't talk much about his early childhood, saying he felt a bit shy until after high school. Daniel Mananta has one brother named William Mananta.

Life in Perth, Australia

While he was in school in Perth, Daniel Mananta worked part-time at Nando's. He started as a waiter and later became an assistant manager. But when his final high school exams got close, he left his job to focus on his studies.

After graduating from Aquinas College, Daniel Mananta went to Edith Cowan University. He studied for two degrees in business, focusing on finance and international business. He finished his studies in 2002 when he was 20 years old.

For six months after graduating, Daniel looked for work in Perth. During this time, he got involved in a business where he sold Amway products. He gave business talks almost every day, which made him enjoy talking to groups of people. He also worked as an intern at Citibank Australia for three weeks.

Starting His Career

Daniel Mananta missed his home country, so he returned to Jakarta at the end of 2002. He worked with his father, who owned a store in Mangga Dua, a huge shopping center in Jakarta. However, Daniel didn't enjoy this work, so he left in early 2003.

Around the same time, MTV Indonesia started its MTV VJ Hunt 2003 competition. Daniel Mananta decided to try out. He became one of the finalists from 6,000 people and eventually won the VJ Hunt.

Soon, Daniel Mananta became a well-known face. In 2004, he hosted the red carpet show for the MTV Asia Awards. As an MTV VJ, he interviewed many famous international music stars. These included Korn, Linkin Park, Avril Lavigne, The Black Eyed Peas, and others.

Daniel Mananta also became the face of several products, like Sony Ericsson and Adidas Indonesia.

Acting and Singing

In 2007, Daniel Mananta got the main role in a TV movie called I Love You Boss. He also acted in a TV series called Antara Cinta dan Dusta (Between Love and Lies).

In 2009, Daniel Mananta got a role as Jimmie in the movie Rumah Dara (also known as Macabre). He acted alongside Shareefa Danish, Julie Estelle, and others. Macabre, directed by The Mo Brothers, was also shown in other countries.

In 2011, Daniel Mananta made a song with the band Potenzio called Twitter Dunia. In the song, Daniel raps. He said he wasn't very confident singing, but he likes rapping because it's like talking fast to music.

Being a Presenter

Daniel Mananta hosted the third season of Indonesian Idol in 2006. The first time he hosted this popular singing competition, he worked with Ata. He also continued his work as an MTV VJ.

Daniel and Ata hosted Indonesian Idol again the next year. In 2008, Daniel Mananta worked with Dewi Sandra, an Indonesian singer, to host the fifth season. For the sixth and seventh seasons of Indonesian Idol (in 2010 and 2012), Daniel was trusted to host the show by himself.

This experienced host also hosted Asian Idol in 2007, which was shown in six countries: India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Vietnam. He also hosted the Anugerah Planet Muzik 2011, a music awards show for Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore. In 2016, he hosted the second season of The Voice Indonesia.

Personal Life

Daniel Mananta has said that he started dating later than most people, having his first relationship when he was 17. He had a short relationship with Marissa Nasution in 2008. There were also rumors about Daniel dating singers Agnes Monica and Sandra Dewi, but these were never confirmed.

He married Viola Maria from Germany in 2011. They have two children.
