Robert Daniel Menaker (born September 17, 1941, died October 26, 2020) was an American writer and editor. He helped students learn writing at Stony Brook Southampton. He also advised Barnes & Noble bookstores.

Robert Menaker was born in Manhattan, a busy part of New York City. His father, also named Robert Menaker, was the son of an immigrant from Russia. His mother, Mary R. Grace, was a top editor at Fortune magazine.
Early Life and Education
Robert Menaker went to the Little Red School House in Greenwich Village. He also attended Nyack High School in Rockland County, New York. He loved learning about philosophy and poetry. He studied these subjects at Swarthmore College in Pennsylvania. Later, he earned a master's degree in English from Johns Hopkins University.
Menaker described himself as an anarcho-syndicalist. This is a political idea about how workers can organize society.
Family Life
In 1980, Robert Menaker married Katherine Bouton. They had two children together. Their daughter is named Elizabeth, and their son is named Will. Will Menaker is known for co-hosting a podcast called Chapo Trap House.
Robert Menaker passed away on October 26, 2020. He died from pancreatic cancer at his home in New Marlborough, Massachusetts.
Writing and Editing Career
Robert Menaker had an important career in publishing. For twenty years, he was a fiction editor at The New Yorker magazine. Many of his own writings were also published there.
Working at Random House
In 1995, Harold Evans hired Menaker to work at Random House. This is a very big book publishing company. Menaker started as a Senior Literary Editor. Later, he became the Executive Editor-in-Chief. He worked with many famous writers during this time. Some of these writers include Salman Rushdie, Colum McCann, Elizabeth Strout, and Nassim Taleb.
After leaving Random House in 2007, Menaker hosted a web-based book show. It was called "Titlepage" and started in 2008.
