Dannemora is a small village in Clinton County, New York, United States. It is located partly in the town of Dannemora and partly in the town of Saranac. The village is most famous for being home to the Clinton Correctional Facility, often just called Dannemora.
In 2010, about 3,936 people lived here. A large number of these residents, around 2,800 to 3,000, are actually inmates at the prison. The village got its name from Dannemora, Sweden, a town known for iron-making. Early settlers came from there.
The northern part of the village is in the town of Dannemora. The southern part is in the town of Saranac. Students in Dannemora attend schools in the Saranac Central School District.

History of Dannemora
The village of Dannemora officially became a village in 1901. People first started settling here permanently in 1838.
Early Industries
The first main industries in Dannemora were mining and smelting iron. Mining means digging valuable minerals like iron from the ground. Smelting is a process that uses heat to separate metal from its ore. These industries became very important around 1843.
Clinton Correctional Facility
The Clinton Correctional Facility, originally called Clinton Prison, opened in 1845. It was built so that prisoners could work in the iron industry. Today, it is a maximum security facility. This means it is a very secure prison for people serving long sentences. It is one of the largest prisons in New York State. You can find it in the northern part of the village.

Dannemora is located at coordinates 44°43′15″N 73°43′8″W / 44.72083°N 73.71889°W.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the village covers about 3.0 square kilometers (1.2 square miles) of land. There is no water area within the village.
Adirondack Park Boundary
The entire village of Dannemora is inside the Adirondack Park boundary. The Adirondack Park is a large protected area in New York. However, the town of Dannemora itself is not part of the park by law. This means that the part of the village within the town of Dannemora, including the Clinton Correctional Facility, is outside the park. But the part of the village in the town of Saranac is inside the park.
Roads and Highways
New York State Route 374 is a main road that goes through the village. It is known as Cook Street within Dannemora.
