Saranac is a town in Clinton County, New York, United States. It is located on the western border of the county, west of Plattsburgh. The town is also part of the beautiful Adirondack Park.
In 2020, the population of Saranac was 3,852 people. This was a small decrease from 4,007 people counted in 2010. The town gets its name from the Saranac River, which flows right through it.

History of Saranac
People first started settling in the area around 1802. The town of Saranac was officially created in 1824. It was formed from the western part of another town called Plattsburgh.
Geography of Saranac
The town of Saranac covers a total area of about 300.3 square kilometers (or 115.5 square miles). Most of this area, about 298.6 square kilometers (114.8 square miles), is land. The rest, about 1.7 square kilometers (0.66 square miles), is water.
The western edge of the town is the border with Franklin County.
Saranac River
The Saranac River is the most important waterway in the town. It flows through the southern and eastern parts of Saranac. The river eventually makes its way to Lake Champlain.
Main Roads
New York State Route 3 is the main highway that runs through Saranac. It goes from east to west across the town.

- Clayburg – This is a small community located on NY-3. It's on the north side of the Saranac River, southwest of the main Saranac hamlet. The Saranac River enters the town here.
- Dannemora – Part of the village of Dannemora is located within the town of Saranac, right at the northern town line.
- Elsinore – You can find Elsinore by NY-3 and the Saranac River, at the eastern edge of the town.
- High Bank – This community is in the southwestern part of the town, along Standish Road.
- Moffitsville – A community southwest of the main Saranac hamlet. It's on NY-3 near the Saranac River.
- Picketts Corners – This community is northeast of the Saranac hamlet, also on NY-3.
- Redford – A community in the southwestern part of the town on NY-3. It's southwest of Saranac hamlet and northeast of Clayburg.
- Russia – A community located northwest of the main Saranac hamlet.
- Saranac – This is the main community or hamlet of Saranac. It's located on NY-3, on the north side of the Saranac River.
- Saranac Hollow – An old, historic place located near the river.
- Standish – A community found in the northwestern corner of the town.
