Darina Márquez Uribe, known simply as Darina, is a talented singer and songwriter from Mexico. She was born on July 28, 1980, in Pachuca, Hidalgo. Darina became famous after winning the first-ever singing competition TV show in Latin America. This show was called Operación Triunfo México, and she won it on November 10, 2002.
Before becoming a music star, Darina was also a professional soccer player. She even helped start the Women's Pachuca Football Club in 1994. Darina has worked with big companies like The Walt Disney Company and Televisa. She has also provided songs for TV shows like Velo de Novia. Early Life and First Steps
Darina was born in Pachuca, Hidalgo, Mexico. She grew up with her older brother, Jorge, and their mother. From 1994 to 2002, Darina was a professional soccer player. She was a founding member of the women's soccer team "Tuzas del Pachuca." She also helped lead the Mexico women's national soccer team in the mid-1990s.
In 1996, Darina started her music journey as a solo artist. She also worked at a radio station in Mexico. At the same time, she was a founding member of a rock band called Sol & Luna. She studied at the National Institute of Fine Arts and Literature in Mexico City. In 2001, she began studying at the University of Pachuca. It was then that she tried out for Operación Triunfo México.
Becoming a Star: Operación Triunfo and Beyond
In 2002, Darina was chosen to join the musical TV show Operación Triunfo after many auditions. She won first place, making her the first winner of a singing competition TV show in Latin America. Right after her win, she signed with Universal Music Group.
In 2003, she released her second album, also called Darina. This album was very popular and sold a lot of copies. It was recorded in Madrid and Mexico City. Many talented artists helped with the album, including David Bisbal and Mario Domm. Her first song from the album, "De corazón a corazón," became the main theme for the TV show Velo de Novia. In 2004, Darina went to France for another TV show called World Best. She represented Mexico and finished in 4th place.
Music and Achievements
Darina has released several studio albums during her career. Her first album after Operación Triunfo was Mis Exitos En Operación Triunfo in 2002. This album included many songs she performed on the show. In 2003, she released her self-titled album, DARINA, which was a big success.
In 2008, she released her album, Hoy Como Ayer. The first song from this album, "Cansada," was released in 2008 and then again worldwide in 2010. She continued to release music, including her album Libertad in 2019 and Acústico '04 En Vivo in 2020. She has performed in different places, including Canada and Mexico.
Beyond Music: Soccer and Community Work
Before her music career took off, Darina was a dedicated soccer player. She was a key part of the Women's Pachuca Football Club when it started in 1994. She even co-captained the Mexico women's national soccer team.
Darina has also been involved in community work and politics. In 2018, she was a candidate for the Mexican Senate. In 2020, she was a candidate for the city council in Pachuca. This shows her interest in helping her community.
