Darrell Walker (born March 9, 1961) is an American college basketball coach and former professional player. He is currently the head coach for the men's team at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Walker played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) for 10 seasons. He even won an NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls in 1993. Before turning pro, he played college basketball for Westark Community College and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Playing in College and the NBA
After finishing high school at Corliss High School in Chicago, Darrell Walker played college basketball. He started at Westark Community College, which is now the University of Arkansas–Fort Smith. Then, he moved on to play for the University of Arkansas.
In 1983, the New York Knicks chose him as the 12th pick in the first round of the 1983 NBA draft. Darrell played in the NBA for ten years. During that time, he played for five different teams. These teams were the Knicks, the Denver Nuggets, the Washington Bullets, the Detroit Pistons, and the Chicago Bulls.
Highlights as an NBA Player
Darrell Walker was a talented player. In 1984, he was named to the NBA All-Rookie team, which means he was one of the best new players in the league. Throughout his career, he was often among the top players in the NBA for assists and steals.
One of his best seasons was in 1989–90 with the Washington Bullets. That year, he averaged 9.5 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 8.0 assists per game. He ended his playing career on a high note, winning an NBA championship with the Chicago Bulls in his final season.
Darrell Walker's Coaching Career
Coaching in the NBA and WNBA
After his playing days, Darrell Walker became a coach. He has been a head coach for two NBA teams: the Toronto Raptors and the Washington Wizards. He was the second coach for the Raptors and led them for about a season and a half.
In 2000, he took over as interim head coach for the Washington Wizards. Later that same year, he also became the interim head coach for the Washington Mystics in the WNBA. He then worked for the Wizards as a director and scout before becoming an assistant coach for the New Orleans Hornets.
In March 2012, Walker joined the New York Knicks as an assistant coach. He stayed with them until 2014.
Coaching College Basketball
In 2016, Darrell Walker became the head coach at Clark Atlanta University. In just two seasons, he led the team to an impressive 45 wins and only 18 losses. His team also won the SIAC tournament championship in 2017. They even made it to the NCAA Division II tournament twice.
On March 27, 2018, Walker was named the head men's basketball coach at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. He has continued to lead college teams, showing his dedication to the sport. In 2020, his Little Rock team won the Sun Belt Conference regular season championship. More recently, in 2024, they also won the Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship. He was named Coach of the Year for both of these conference wins.
