Darren Lewis's Baseball Journey
Darren Lewis played professional baseball for 13 years. He was known as one of the best base stealers in the 1990s. A "stolen base" happens when a runner moves to the next base while the pitcher is throwing the ball.
In 1994, he won a Gold Glove Award while playing for the San Francisco Giants. This award is given to the best defensive players in baseball. He also played in the postseason with the Cincinnati Reds in 1995. He went to the postseason again with the Boston Red Sox in 1998 and 1999.
Amazing Defense: No Errors!
Darren Lewis was an incredible defensive player. He almost never made mistakes in the outfield. On June 17, 1993, he set a major league record. He played his 243rd game in a row without making an error. This was the longest error-free start to a career for an outfielder.
On July 16, 1993, he broke another record. He played his 267th game without an error, breaking the all-time MLB record. His amazing streak continued until June 30, 1994. He finally made his first error after 392 games. His record was later broken by Nick Markakis in 2015.
Defense was Lewis's strongest skill. He made only 16 errors in 2836 chances. This means he caught almost every ball hit his way.
