The Dartmouth Mall is a popular shopping center located in North Dartmouth, Massachusetts, in the United States. It's a single-level mall, meaning most of its stores are on one floor. You can find it near Route 6 and Faunce Corner Road.

Right now, the main stores at the mall are Burlington, JCPenney, and Macy's. Besides these big stores, the mall also has a food court where you can grab a bite to eat, and a movie theater to catch the latest films. The mall is managed by a company called Pennsylvania Real Estate Investment Trust.

How the Dartmouth Mall Started

The Dartmouth Mall first opened its doors in 1971. It was originally called the North Dartmouth Mall. The name changed in the 1990s. Before the mall was built, this spot was a golf course called Paskamansett Links.

When the mall first opened, it was a big deal for the area. It had a movie theater with three screens, 72 different stores, and nine restaurants. The main stores back then were Zayre, Sears, and The Outlet Company. There were also smaller stores like Cherry & Webb and Woolworth.

Over the years, some of these original stores changed. For example, Zayre became an Ames store in the late 1980s. The Outlet Company closed down in 1980, and JCPenney took its place. Later, the Ames store was torn down and a Filene's department store was built there in 2004. Just two years later, in 2006, Filene's became a Macy's when Macy's bought the Filene's chain.

Since the mall opened, the area around it has grown a lot. Many other shopping centers and plazas have been built nearby, making it a busy retail hub.

What's New at the Mall Today?

In the early 2000s, the Dartmouth Mall got a big makeover. They updated the entrances, put up new signs, and completely redid the inside. Even though the basic shape of the mall stayed the same, they added a brand new food court.

The movie theaters also got bigger! They now have 12 screens and are run by AMC. Outside the main mall building, in the parking lot, you can find a couple of restaurants like Olive Garden and Taco Bell. There are also a couple of empty store spots in the parking lot that used to be a Sears Auto Center and Pier 1 Imports.

In 2019, it was announced that the Sears store would be closing. Then, in 2019, Burlington announced it would open in part of the old Sears space in 2020. In 2020, Aldi also announced it would open in another part of the former Sears space in late 2021.
