Becoming a Magician
Daryl first discovered magic in 1962 when he was seven years old. A special Svengali Deck given to him by a friend's family sparked his interest. He was fascinated by the tricks he could do with this deck.
At first, Daryl only showed his tricks to friends and family. Later, he started performing street magic in San Diego. For several years, he performed on the street during the day. At night, he performed close-up magic in nightclubs, often wearing a tuxedo.
In 1973, when he was 18, Daryl performed at an exhibition for the Kaiser Aluminum company. His performance was very popular. He then began to travel with the company, performing at their events.
Famous Magic Tricks
Daryl created some very famous magic tricks. One was the "Hot Shot Cut." In this trick, a chosen card spins out of the deck like a boomerang. Another famous trick was the "Ultimate Ambition." This trick made a card, placed in the middle of the deck, magically appear back on top.
Awards and Recognition
Daryl won many awards for his magic. In 1982, he won the gold medal at FISM. This is the World Congress of Magic, often called the "Olympics of Magic." He won it in Lausanne, Switzerland, with his famous Ambitious Card Routine.
He also won six Academy Awards from The Magic Castle in Hollywood, California. This is a famous club for magicians.
