A Look at Dassel's Past
Dassel was planned out in 1869. It was named after Bernard Dassel, who worked for the railroad. A post office opened in Dassel the same year, 1869. The city officially became a town (incorporated) in 1878.

A small part, about 0.01 square miles (0.03 square kilometers), is water. The city is next to Spring Lake on its northeast side and Sellards Lake on its southwest side.

Dassel is proud of its schools. Dassel Elementary School was recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School in 2012. This award is given to schools that show excellent academic performance. In 2011, Bloomberg Businessweek magazine listed Dassel as a runner-up for "The Best Places to Raise Your Kids" in Minnesota.
