Dave Adolph (June 6, 1937 – February 12, 2017) was a well-known American football coach. He was born in Akron, Ohio and passed away in Dublin, Ohio. Adolph spent many years coaching at both college and professional levels. He was especially known for his work as a defensive coordinator. Coaching Football Teams
Dave Adolph had a long and successful career coaching football. He worked with many different teams, helping them improve their defense. He coached for several college teams before moving to the NFL.
Early Coaching Days
Adolph started his coaching journey at East Cleveland Shaw High School. After that, he coached at his old college, the University of Akron. He then moved on to coach linebackers at the University of Connecticut and the University of Kentucky. He also coached at Illinois and Ohio State.
Coaching in the NFL
Dave Adolph spent many years coaching in the NFL. He was a defensive coordinator for several teams. He worked with the Cleveland Browns and the San Diego Chargers. He also coached for the Los Angeles Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs.
He was the defensive coordinator for the Cleveland Browns from 1986 to 1988. He also worked with coach Marty Schottenheimer as his defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1992 to 1994. Adolph's teams played in four AFC championship games. These are important games that decide which team goes to the Super Bowl.
