Sir David Cecil (born around 1460, died around 1540) was an important person in England. He was a Welsh landowner, a courtier (someone who served the king), and a Member of Parliament.
He was born into a Welsh family. His father was Richard Cecil ap Philip Seisyllt. David was the third son. His family lived in a place called Alt-yr-Ynys. This area was near the border of Herefordshire and Monmouthshire. Later, Sir David Cecil moved to live near Stamford, Lincolnshire.

Sir David's Roles in Stamford
Sir David Cecil held several important jobs in the town of Stamford. He was an alderman (a senior member of the town council) in Stamford. He served in this role during the years 1504–05, 1515–16, and 1526–27.
Serving the King
By 1506, Sir David became a "Yeoman of the Chamber." This was a special position serving the King directly. He kept this important job for the rest of his life.
Member of Parliament
Sir David was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for Stamford many times. He represented Stamford in the Parliament in 1504, 1510, 1512, 1515, and 1523. As an MP, he helped make laws for the country.

From 1513 until he died, Sir David was a "serjeant-at-arms." This role involved keeping order and carrying out duties for the King. He also became a Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Rutland in 1532. His second wife was Jane Roos. She was a widow when they married. Sir David and Jane had one daughter. His son, Richard, took over his family's affairs after his death.
