David McKinley Henderson (born July 21, 1964) is an American basketball scout. He currently works for the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA.
Henderson was a talented basketball player in college. He was a co-captain for the Duke Blue Devils team in 1986. This team made it all the way to the NCAA Final Four.
After college, Henderson played professional basketball for 10 years. He played in the United States, Israel, France, and Turkey. Later, he became a coach. He was an assistant coach at Duke and then a head coach at the University of Delaware. Since 2006, he has been a scout for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

College Basketball Career
David Henderson grew up in Drewry, North Carolina. After finishing high school in 1982, he was recruited by coach Mike Krzyzewski. He joined the Duke Blue Devils basketball team.
Henderson was an important player for Duke. He was either a starter or one of the first players to come off the bench. In his final year, he was a co-captain. He started all 39 games that season. He scored about 14.2 points per game. He helped lead the Blue Devils to the national championship game. They played against Louisville but lost.
In 1986, Henderson graduated from Duke. He earned a degree in economics.
Professional Basketball Career
After graduating from Duke, David Henderson played professional basketball for a decade.
The Washington Bullets picked him in the 1986 NBA draft. He was chosen in the third round. His first year as a pro was spent playing for the Albany Patroons. This team was in the Continental Basketball Association.
Henderson also played 22 games for the Philadelphia 76ers in the NBA. This was during the 1987–88 season. He averaged 5.7 points per game for them.
For the next eight years, Henderson played basketball overseas. He played professionally in France, Israel, and Turkey. In 1991, he was named the Israeli Basketball Premier League MVP. This means he was the most valuable player in Israel's top basketball league.
Coaching Career
After he stopped playing basketball, David Henderson became a coach. In 1997, he was hired as an assistant coach at Duke.
During his three years as an assistant coach, the Duke Blue Devils were very successful. They won the ACC championship every year. In 1999, they were the national runner-up. This means they made it to the championship game but didn't win.
In 2000, Henderson became the head coach for the men's basketball team at the University of Delaware. He took over from Mike Brey, who also used to be a Duke assistant coach.
Henderson coached at Delaware for six years. In his first season, his team, the Blue Hens, had a great record of 20 wins and 10 losses. They almost won the America East title game. After his first year, Delaware moved to a new, tougher conference called the Colonial Athletic Association. The team reached the tournament semifinals in the next two years. They made it to the quarterfinals in his fourth year. After a couple of challenging seasons, Henderson left the team after the 2005–06 season.
Scouting Career
In the summer of 2006, David Henderson joined the Cleveland Cavaliers. He was hired as a scout for the NBA team.
As a scout, his job is to find talented amateur players. He looks for players who could be good additions to the Cavaliers team. He has been with the Cavaliers for many years. During his time there, he has helped with all of their annual player drafts. In 2015, he even won an NBA championship ring with the team.
