David Lloyd (born 1950) is a famous English comics artist. He is best known for drawing the story V for Vendetta. This comic was written by Alan Moore. David Lloyd also designed the look of the main character, V, and the modern Guy Fawkes/V mask. This mask has become a powerful symbol of protest around the world.

He has also drawn for other comic books like Wasteland, Espers, and Hellblazer. He even worked on comics based on popular movies like Aliens and James Bond. In 2012, David Lloyd started Aces Weekly, which is an online collection of comics.

Early Life of David Lloyd

David Lloyd was born in Enfield, London, England, in 1950.

David Lloyd's Comic Career Begins

Lloyd started working in comics in the late 1970s. He drew for magazines like Halls of Horror and TV Comic. He also worked on many comics for Marvel UK. With writer Steve Parkhouse, he helped create a character called Night Raven. David Lloyd also drew a comic book version of the movie Time Bandits in 1982.

Creating V for Vendetta for Warrior Magazine

In 1982, Dez Skinn started a magazine called Warrior. He asked David Lloyd to create a new adventure character. Lloyd teamed up with writer Alan Moore. They had worked together before on Doctor Who stories. Together, they created V for Vendetta.

V for Vendetta is an exciting story set in a future world. In this world, a strict government controls everything. The main character, V, is a mysterious person who fights against this unfair government. David Lloyd drew the comic in a special way called chiaroscuro, which uses strong contrasts between light and dark. He also suggested that Alan Moore not use speech bubbles for thoughts or sound effects.

Lloyd designed V's unique look, which was inspired by Guy Fawkes. He said in an interview that he thought of Guy Fawkes because it would make the character look "theatrical." He created the famous Guy Fawkes mask with a slight smile. This mask became perfect for V, who was fighting for freedom. After Warrior magazine stopped publishing in 1984, V for Vendetta was reprinted in color by DC Comics in 1988. It was later collected into a graphic novel in 1995.

The Guy Fawkes Mask: A Symbol of Protest

V for Vendetta was made into a movie in 2005. The special Guy Fawkes mask that David Lloyd designed for V became a very important symbol. People around the world started using it to show their protest against unfair rules or governments.

The online group Anonymous adopted the mask as their symbol. It appeared in their web forums. The mask has also been seen in many other protests. These include Project Chanology, the Occupy movement, and Anonymous for the Voiceless. It even appeared in the TV show Mr. Robot.

Later Works and Aces Weekly

After V for Vendetta, David Lloyd continued to work on many other comics. He drew for the scary comic collection Wasteland for DC Comics. He also worked on Espers and Hellblazer. For DC, he drew War Story and Global Frequency.

He also worked on comics based on popular stories like Aliens and James Bond for Dark Horse Comics. In 2006, Lloyd created a graphic novel called Kickback for a French publisher.

In 2012, David Lloyd started his own online comic collection called Aces Weekly. It features works from many talented comic creators.
