Senger David Peralta Guerreiro, born on August 14, 1987, is a professional baseball player from Venezuela. He is an outfielder, which means he plays in the outfield area of the baseball field. David has played for several teams in Major League Baseball (MLB), including the Arizona Diamondbacks, Tampa Bay Rays, Los Angeles Dodgers, and San Diego Padres. Peralta first signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004 as a pitcher. After some challenges, he switched to playing as an outfielder in independent baseball leagues. David Peralta was born in Valencia, Venezuela, on August 14, 1987. He grew up there with his two sisters, Ivonne and Erika. His father is also named David Peralta, and his mother is Diocelina Peralta.

Baseball Career

Starting Out

Peralta signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 2004. He received a $35,000 signing bonus. He started his professional career as a pitcher in the Dominican Summer League.

He played in the Appalachian League in 2006 and 2007. However, he needed two surgeries on his shoulder. He spent the 2008 season recovering from these injuries. The Cardinals then released Peralta in May 2009.

After leaving the Cardinals, Peralta played for three seasons in independent baseball leagues. He played as an outfielder for teams like the Rio Grande Valley WhiteWings, Wichita Wingnuts, and Amarillo Sox. This is where he changed his main position from pitcher to outfielder.

Arizona Diamondbacks

On July 3, 2013, Peralta signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He played for their minor league teams, the Visalia Rawhide and the Mobile BayBears.

The Diamondbacks called Peralta up to the major leagues on June 1, 2014. He made his MLB debut that same day. He quickly showed his skills, hitting .328 in his first 15 games.

In 2015, Peralta had a great season. He batted .312 with 17 home runs. He also led the National League with 10 triples. He was the Diamondbacks' main left fielder.

Peralta continued to play well for Arizona. In 2018, he hit 30 home runs, which was his career high. He also had 164 hits. At the end of that season, he won the Silver Slugger Award. This award goes to the best offensive player at each position.

In 2019, Peralta won the Gold Glove Award. This award is given to the best defensive player at each position. He hit 12 home runs that year. In 2020, he kept hitting well, batting .300 with 5 home runs.

On May 14, 2021, Peralta even pitched in a game. He allowed 3 runs but also got his first major league strikeout. In 2021, he was tied for the major league lead with eight triples.

Tampa Bay Rays

On July 30, 2022, the Diamondbacks traded Peralta to the Tampa Bay Rays. While playing for the Rays, he got his 1,000th career hit on October 1, 2022. He finished the 2022 season with the Rays batting .255.

Los Angeles Dodgers

On February 16, 2023, Peralta signed a one-year contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played in 133 games for them. He hit seven home runs and had 55 RBI. After the season, Peralta had surgery on his left arm for an injury he had during the year. He became a free agent after this season.

Chicago Cubs

On February 19, 2024, Peralta signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs. He played 20 games for their Triple-A team, the Iowa Cubs. He hit two home runs for them. On May 10, Peralta decided to leave his contract and became a free agent again.

San Diego Padres

On May 18, 2024, Peralta signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres. After playing just three games for their Triple-A team, the El Paso Chihuahuas, he was called up to the main roster on May 22. He mostly played right field for the Padres. He had a good batting average of .267 with them.

Personal Life

David Peralta's wife, Jordan, gave birth to their first child in August 2017.
