The film David and Goliath is an exciting Italian movie from 1960. It tells the famous Bible story of a brave young shepherd named David and his incredible fight against a giant warrior called Goliath. The movie was filmed in places like Israel and Yugoslavia, bringing the ancient story to life. It shows how courage and smart thinking can help even the smallest person overcome a huge challenge.
The Story of David and Goliath
The movie starts with a wise old man called Samuel, who is a prophet. A prophet is someone who shares messages from God. Samuel says that a new king will soon rule Israel. This news worries King Saul, who is the current king, and his cousin Abner, who is the army leader. King Saul has been having a lot of bad luck, especially since the Philistines captured an important religious item called the Ark. He is scared of this new king but doesn't know who it will be.
Meanwhile, a young shepherd named David visits the city of Jerusalem. It is here that he is chosen to be the new king. Abner decides to test David's wisdom. He asks how the Israelites can get around a rule made by the Philistines. The Philistines were a powerful enemy who had defeated Israel. Their rule said that only King Saul's officers and palace guards could carry weapons. David cleverly replies that the Philistines did not say there was a limit on how many officers or guards there could be!
At the same time, King Asrod of the Philistines plans another attack on Israel's wealth. This time, he brings along a truly terrifying giant warrior named Goliath. This sets the stage for the famous battle between the young shepherd and the mighty giant.
