Early Life and Education
Dee Clemmons went to Spelman College and earned her bachelor's degree in 1991. Later, she received a Master's degree in Leadership from Beulah Heights University. She also became a certified coach from the Center for Executive Coaching.
Dee is married and has two daughters. One of her daughters is India Scandrick, a talented Broadway star and actress.
Her Career in Public Service
After finishing college, Dee Clemmons taught middle school students until 1993. She then decided to focus on public service. In 1990, she was a student representative on the first board of the White House's Points of Light Foundation. In this role, she helped create programs to encourage college students to get involved in public service. She continued her career as a "socialpreneur," which means she used business ideas to solve social problems.
Becoming a Commissioner
