The Delta Toronto Hotel is a modern and fancy hotel located in Downtown Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It opened its doors on November 27, 2014. This hotel is the main hotel for the Delta Hotels chain in Toronto. You can find it at 75 Lower Simcoe Street, right where Lower Simcoe Street and Bremner Boulevard meet.
Discovering the Delta Toronto Hotel's Story
The idea for the new Delta Toronto Hotel started when the old Delta Chelsea hotel changed its management in 2012. On December 19, 2012, the owner of the Delta Chelsea, Great Eagle Holdings Ltd., decided to stop working with Delta Hotels. They chose to manage the hotel themselves through their company, Langham Hospitality Group.
Reports said that Great Eagle didn't want to spend money on updates that Delta Hotels thought were needed. Soon after the Delta Chelsea left the Delta Hotels group, Delta began planning a brand new hotel. They picked a spot in an area of Toronto called the South Core. This new hotel would also be connected to Toronto's underground walkway system, the PATH.
The new hotel building is about 160 meters (524 feet) tall. It was designed by architects from Page and Steele/IBI Group Architects. Unlike the older location, this new spot helped the Delta chain become a more upscale, premium hotel. The new Delta Toronto has 567 rooms just for hotel guests. It also has special "extended-stay" units for people who need to stay for a longer time.
