Dayon Demond Mallet (born February 22, 1978) is a former professional basketball player from the United States. He played college basketball at McNeese State University. Mallet spent 17 seasons playing basketball professionally. He played in many different European leagues. During his career, he won several championships and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in various competitions.
Demond Mallet won a German League championship and the German Cup title. He also won the ULEB Cup championship, which is now called the EuroCup. He also won the important Spanish King's Cup title with the team Joventut Badalona. Joventut later honored Mallet in his last game with the team. In 2011, Mallet was named the Belgian League MVP. He also won the Belgium League championship that same year.

High School Days
Demond Mallet grew up in Leesville, Louisiana. He went to Leesville High. There, he played high school basketball.
College Basketball Star
After high school, Mallet went to McNeese State University. He played college basketball for the McNeese State Cowboys. In 2001, he was recognized as an NCAA Division I All-American Honorable Mention. He was also named the Southland Conference's Player of the Year for the 2000–01 season. In 2012, Mallet was added to the McNeese State University Hall of Fame.
Professional Career Highlights
Playing in Europe
After college, Mallet played in the NBA Summer League for the Detroit Pistons in 2001. He also played for the Boston Celtics' summer league team in 2002. Mallet then moved to Germany and played for several years in the Bundesliga. This is Germany's top basketball league. Later, he played in Spain and Turkey. In 2010, he signed a two-year contract to play in Belgium.
In December 2011, Mallet moved from his Belgian club. He was considered one of the best point guards in the EuroLeague at that time. He signed a one-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. In April 2012, he returned to Spirou Charleroi in Belgium. This was for the rest of the 2011–12 season. The next year, Mallet signed a two-year deal with the Artland Dragons. People said this was the biggest contract ever for a point guard in the German Basketball League. After that season, he returned to Spirou again. Then, he became a player for FIATC Joventut, where he also worked as a player-coach.
Honored by Teams
Demond Mallet was greatly honored by Joventut. On May 22, 2016, a banner was put up at the club's arena. His jersey number was also retired. This was done to celebrate all his achievements with the club.
On January 10, 2017, Mallet signed with the French club SLUC Nancy. He played for them for the rest of the 2016–17 Pro A season. He officially announced his retirement from professional basketball in February 2018. On February 23, 2018, Brose Bamberg held a ceremony to honor Mallet. He had helped this club win their first championship and enter the Euroleague.
