Dayon Demond Mallet (born February 22, 1978) is a former professional basketball player from America. He played college basketball at McNeese State University. Demond Mallet played professionally for 17 seasons. He played in many different European leagues.
Mallet won several championships and was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in some competitions. He won a German League championship and the German Cup title. He also won the EuroCup championship (which used to be called the ULEB Cup). Mallet also won the important Spanish King's Cup title with the team Joventut Badalona. Joventut honored Mallet in his last game with the team. In 2011, Mallet won the Belgian League MVP award and the Belgian League championship.

Early Life and High School Basketball
Demond Mallet grew up in Leesville, Louisiana. He went to Leesville High there. During his time in high school, he played basketball for his school team.
College Basketball Career
After high school, Mallet went to McNeese State University. He played college basketball for the McNeese State Cowboys. In 2001, he was recognized as an NCAA Division I All-American Honorable Mention. This means he was one of the top players in college basketball.
He was also named the Southland Conference's Player of the Year for the 2000–01 season. In 2012, Demond Mallet was honored by being added to the McNeese State University Hall of Fame.
Professional Basketball Journey
After college, Mallet played in the 2001 NBA Summer League with the Detroit Pistons. He also played in the 2002 NBA Summer League with the Boston Celtics. These summer leagues are where new players try to show their skills to NBA teams.
Mallet then played for several years in Germany. He played in the Bundesliga, which is Germany's top basketball league. Later, he moved to Spain and then to Turkey. In 2010, he went to Belgium and signed a two-year contract with a team there.
Playing in Europe
In December 2011, Mallet moved from his Belgian club to Maccabi Tel Aviv in Israel. He was considered one of the best point guards in the EuroLeague that season. He signed a one-year contract with Maccabi Tel Aviv.
In April 2012, he returned to Spirou Charleroi in Belgium. He finished the 2011–12 season there. The next year, Mallet signed a two-year deal with the Artland Dragons in Germany. People said it was the biggest contract ever for a point guard in the German Basketball League.
After that season, he returned to Spirou again. Then, he became a player for FIATC Joventut in Spain. He even worked as a player-coach there, helping to coach the team while still playing.
Honors and Retirement
On May 22, 2016, Joventut honored Mallet at their arena, Palau Municipal d'Esports de Badalona. They put up a banner and retired his jersey number. This was to celebrate all his great achievements with the club.
On January 10, 2017, Mallet signed with the French club SLUC Nancy. He played for them for the rest of the 2016–17 season. He officially announced his retirement from professional basketball in February 2018. On February 23, 2018, Brose Bamberg held a ceremony to honor Mallet. He had helped this club win their first championship and enter the Euroleague.
