Dermot Bannon (born 2 May 1972) is an Irish architect and television presenter. He is most famous for hosting the TV show Room to Improve.
Early Life and Education
Dermot Bannon was born in Malahide, a suburb of Dublin, Ireland. This happened on 2 May 1972. When he was about seven or eight years old, his family moved to Egypt. His father had a job in Cairo. After a few months, they moved back to Ireland.
When Dermot was 18, he started studying architecture. He went to Hull School of Architecture in Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England. After he finished his studies, Bannon returned to Dublin. He then joined an architecture firm called Moloney O'Beirne Architects.
Becoming a TV Star
In 2006, Dermot saw an advertisement. It was for a presenter for a new TV show called House Hunters. A year later, in 2007, he began working on RTE's Room to Improve. This show helps people make their homes better. The latest season of the show aired in 2023.
A spin-off show, Room to Improve: Constructive Criticism, also aired in 2022. Dermot also started a new series called Dermot Bannon's Incredible Homes. This show was paused in 2020 because of the Covid-19 pandemic. It started airing again in April 2022.
In 2015, Dermot Bannon wrote a book. It is called Love Your Home. He also works as a "brand ambassador" for some companies. This means he helps promote their products. For example, he has worked with Volvo and WillowWarm. WillowWarm makes briquettes, which are fuel blocks made from willow mulch.
