Deron Mayo, born on March 28, 1988, is an American football coach. He used to play as a linebacker. Today, he is the main strength and conditioning coach for the New England Patriots in the National Football League (NFL). He played college football at Old Dominion University. Deron Mayo also played for the Calgary Stampeders in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Growing Up and High School Football
Deron Mayo grew up in Hampton, Virginia. He went to Kecoughtan High School and played football there. In his senior year, he was chosen for the All-Peninsula District first-team. He also made the all-area second-team.

College Football Journey
Deron Mayo started his college football career at Hofstra University. He played there for three seasons. Later, he moved to Old Dominion for his final year of college football.
Playing in the NFL
Denver Broncos
On July 26, 2011, Deron Mayo joined the Denver Broncos. He signed with them as an undrafted free agent. This means he wasn't picked in the main NFL draft.
Playing in the CFL
Calgary Stampeders
On May 8, 2012, Mayo signed with the Calgary Stampeders. This team plays in the Canadian Football League.
In his first season in 2012, Mayo was a key player on special teams. He made 15 special teams tackles. He also had 9 defensive tackles and 1 quarterback sack.
In 2013, his second season, Mayo became a big part of the Stampeders' defense. He finished the year with 57 tackles and 5 sacks. He also had 1 interception and 2 fumble recoveries. After this great season, he re-signed with the Stampeders on February 13, 2014.
Mayo kept playing strongly in the 2014 CFL season. He set a new personal best with 67 tackles. He also added 2 sacks and 2 fumble recoveries. The Stampeders won the 102nd Grey Cup that year. They beat Hamilton 20-16 in the championship game. In that game, Mayo led his team with 7 tackles. He also forced a fumble. On March 9, 2015, Mayo and the Stampeders agreed to extend his contract. He officially retired from playing on April 10, 2018.

In 2018, Deron Mayo started his coaching career. He was hired by the New England Patriots. He worked as an assistant strength and conditioning coach. In 2024, he was promoted to be the head strength and conditioning coach for the team.
Family Life
Deron Mayo has two brothers, Jerod and Derek. Both of his brothers also played football as linebackers. Jerod played college football at Tennessee. He was a first-round pick for the New England Patriots in the NFL. Jerod played for the Patriots from 2008 to 2015. He even won a Super Bowl with the team. Jerod became the head coach for the Patriots during the 2024 season. Derek played college football at the University of Richmond. He was part of the 2008 Richmond Spiders team that won the NCAA FCS National Championship.
