Derrick Blaylock, born on August 23, 1979, is a former American professional football player. He was a running back in the National Football League (NFL). The Kansas City Chiefs picked him in the 2001 NFL draft. He also played for the New York Jets.
Derrick Blaylock's Early Life and High School Sports
Derrick Blaylock grew up in Atlanta, Texas. He went to Atlanta High School. Derrick was a fantastic athlete in many sports. He played football, ran track, and played basketball.
In football, he was chosen as an All-District player three times. This means he was one of the best players in his area. For basketball, he was a second-team All-District player. He was also very fast in track. He set a school record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.44 seconds. He even placed second in the state finals for the 100-meter dash.
Derrick Blaylock's Professional Football Career
Derrick Blaylock started his professional football journey in 2001. On April 22, 2001, the Kansas City Chiefs chose him in the 2001 NFL draft. He was the 150th player picked overall. This was a big step for his career.
During his time with the Chiefs, Derrick had some amazing games. On October 24, 2004, he scored four rushing touchdowns in one game. This was against the Atlanta Falcons. He was one of three running backs for the Chiefs to run for over 100 yards in a game during the 2004 season. The other two were Priest Holmes and Larry Johnson.
After playing for the Chiefs, Derrick moved to the New York Jets. He played for them in 2005 and 2006. Later, in 2007, he signed with the Washington Redskins. However, he was released from the team before the season started.
