Derrick D'wayne Burroughs (born May 18, 1962) is an American football coach and former player. He played as a cornerback for five seasons in the National Football League (NFL) with the Buffalo Bills. He was chosen by the Bills in the first round of the 1985 NFL Draft. He also served as the head football coach at Lane College for two different periods. Since 2015, he has been the Athletic Director at Lane College.
Playing in the NFL
Derrick Burroughs was a talented football player. He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills as the 14th pick overall in 1985. He played as a cornerback, a defensive position, for five seasons. During his time in the NFL, he made 6 Interceptions and recovered 3 Fumbles. He was also named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 1985, which means he was one of the best new players in the league that year.
Coaching Journey
After his playing career, Burroughs became a football coach. He started in 1995 as an assistant coach for Knoxville College. He then coached in NFL Europe, working with teams like the Amsterdam Admirals and the Berlin Thunder. He also coached in the Arena Football League and the XFL.
In 2006, he returned to college coaching. He worked as a defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at several colleges. These included Clark Atlanta, Stillman College, and Alabama State University.
Head Coach at Lane College
Derrick Burroughs became the head football coach at Lane College in 2010. He led the team for four seasons until 2013. After a short time at Jackson State University, he returned to Lane College in 2015. He coached the Lane Dragons again until 2019.

Athletic Director Role
