Desi Bernard Wilson (born May 9, 1969) is an American former professional baseball player. He played as a first baseman for the San Francisco Giants in Major League Baseball during 1996. He also played one season in Japan for the Hanshin Tigers in 1998. Today, he works as a hitting coach for the Iowa Cubs, a team connected to the Chicago Cubs.

Desi Wilson's Pro Baseball Career

The Texas Rangers first picked Desi Wilson in the 1991 amateur draft. This is how he started his professional baseball journey. In 1994, he was traded to the San Francisco Giants. This trade also included another player, Rich Aurilia. They were traded for pitcher John Burkett.

Playing in Major League Baseball

Wilson played part of one season with the San Francisco Giants in 1996. He played in 41 games. During this time, his batting average was .271. This means he got a hit in 27.1% of his official at-bats.

Playing in Japan

After his time in MLB, Wilson went to Japan. He played for the Hanshin Tigers in 1998.

There, he worked as a player-coach. He helped the team win the SCL championship that year. In 2009, he joined the Cubs organization as a hitting coach. He moved to Daytona in 2012. In 2013, he was promoted to be the hitting coach for the Tennessee Smokies.
