Desmond "Des" Kitchings, born on July 19, 1978, is a well-known American football coach. He used to play as a wide receiver. Right now, he is the offensive coordinator for the Virginia Cavaliers football team.
Playing Football
Desmond Kitchings was a talented player at Furman University. He played as a receiver and also returned kicks. He was really good at returning kicks, averaging almost 30 yards per return. He even set a school record with four kick returns for touchdowns! After college, the Kansas City Chiefs picked him in the 2000 NFL draft. However, he didn't get to play in the professional NFL games.
Coaching Football
Kitchings started his coaching journey at his old school, Furman. From 2004 to 2007, he coached the tight ends and special teams. After that, he coached at Vanderbilt for three seasons. For one of those seasons, he was the offensive coordinator. In 2011, he coached at Air Force.
He then spent eight seasons coaching at NC State. In 2020, he coached the running backs for the South Carolina team. In 2021, he became the running backs coach for the Atlanta Falcons. After his first year with the Falcons, he was named the offensive coordinator for the Virginia Cavaliers.
