The Diaethria euclides is a type of butterfly that belongs to the Diaethria group. A scientist named Pierre André Latreille first described this butterfly in 1809.
You can find this butterfly in several parts of South America. It lives in eastern Colombia, north-western Venezuela, western Ecuador, and Peru.
What are Subspecies?
Sometimes, animals of the same species can look a little different depending on where they live. These slightly different groups are called subspecies. They are still the same species, but they have small variations.
The Diaethria euclides butterfly has several known subspecies. Each one is found in a specific area:
- D. e. euclides is found in Peru.
- D. e. artemis (described by Röber in 1915) lives in Colombia.
- D. e. gueneei (described by Röber in 1915) is found in Ecuador.
- D. e. metiscus (described by Doubleday in 1849) lives in Venezuela.

- D. e. phlogeides (described by Röber in 1915) also lives in Colombia.
